Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Always wear nitrile or latex gloves when handling chemicals
- Use safety goggles or face shield to protect eyes
- Wear a lab coat or chemical-resistant apron
- Use a fume hood when working with volatile compounds
- Respirator required for powders and aerosol-forming substances
Storage Requirements
- Store in original, tightly sealed containers
- Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames
- Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area
- Separate incompatible chemicals (oxidizers from flammables)
- Label all containers clearly — never store in food/drink containers
- Maintain a chemical inventory log
Handling Precautions
- Read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before handling any compound
- Never work alone with hazardous chemicals
- Avoid skin, eye, and clothing contact
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke in areas where chemicals are used
- Wash hands thoroughly after handling
- Use appropriate spill containment materials
Disposal Guidelines
- Never dispose of chemicals down the drain or in regular trash
- Collect waste in properly labeled containers
- Contact a licensed hazardous waste disposal company
- Follow local, state, and federal disposal regulations
- Neutralize acids/bases before disposal where permitted
